11 Must Do Activities in Ao Nang for Backpackers

Ao Nang is a charming little town located in the district of Krabi, but because of its convenient location it ends up being just a quick stopover for most travelers. However, there is a lot on offer for tourists and adventure-seekers alike. Whether you’re looking for a party, great beaches or exciting hiking trails – Ao Nang has it all. Here are ten things you should add to your itinerary on your next trip here:

Pub Crawl With Slumber Party Ao Nang

Slumber Party Ao Nang is a hostel that offers a pub crawl 3 times per week. You’ll get to visit different bars in Ao Nang, meet fellow travelers, and enjoy the town’s local nightlife. It’s a great way to kick off your trip and make new friends. Book your spot on our legendary pub crawl by getting in touch with us here.

Visit Boogie Bar

Boogie Bar is a popular spot for nightlife in Ao Nang. The bar has a dance floor, live music, and affordable drinks. It’s a great place to let loose and have fun, and a must-visit if you’re visiting Ao Nang. After a long day of adventure, this is the perfect place to relax with a pint and a snack.

ao nang night market

Visit The Night Market

The Night Market in Ao Nang is a lovely way to spend an evening. You’ll find a range of food vendors selling everything from grilled meats to fresh seafood. The range of food is pretty exciting, with everything from Thai to Korean, Indian and continental available here.  It’s also a great place to shop for souvenirs, clothes and craft. Although the market here is not as big as Chatuchak in Bangkok, it is still a cute place to hang out and grab a bite to eat.

Pai Plong Beach

Walk On The Beach During Low Tide

This is an unusual activity that is surprisingly fun and educational – and free! When the tide is low, you can walk from Ao Nang Beach to Pai Plong Beach in Ao Nang. We recommend doing it during sunset, because the view is spectacular. It’s a beautiful walk, and you get to see the limestone cliffs up close. There are lots of fascinating creatures on the shore that you can discover while walking on the beach. Become a marine explorer for the evening and take photos of the strange and unidentifiable critters to document your research!

Go On The 4 Island Tour

The 4 Island Tour is a popular tourist activity in Ao Nang. You’ll visit four different islands, including Phi Phi Island and Chicken Island, and see the unique landscape of Southern Thailand. You’ll get to swim, snorkel, and relax on the beach. To book your spot on our 4 Island Tour, you can ask the hostel manager at Slumber Party Ao Nang for assistance.

railay beach

Visit Railay Beach

Railay Beach is a stunning beach that’s only accessible by boat because of its remote location. The beach is surrounded by limestone cliffs and has crystal-clear water. Railay is a great place to spend a day swimming, snorkeling and enjoying the beautiful skyline. Railay is also an excellent location for rock climbing enthusiasts, and even a school for novice climbers. It also has the Phang Nang Cave which is a must-see if you’re visiting Railay. You can find the location here.

Hike Up Dragon's Crest Mountain

Hike Up Dragon’s Crest Mountain

If you love to trek through thick and lush tropical forests, this tip is for you. Dragon’s Crest Mountain is a challenging hike, but the views from the top are totally worth it. You’ll get a panoramic view of Ao Nang and the surrounding islands and get to take some great pics for the gram. Here is a link to the trail on Google Maps.

mangrove forest at Thapom Klong Song Nam

Kayak Through The Sunken Forest – Thapom Swamp Forest

The Sunken Forest is a unique attraction in Ao Nang. It’s a mangrove forest that’s partially submerged in water. You can stroll through the forest on the walkway, or even rent a kayak and paddle through the forest to see the wildlife up close. The clear water and snake-like root system of the endemic trees make this adventure a surreal experience. The entry fee is THB 100 per person. Here is a link to Thapom Klong Song Nam on Google Maps.

Visit Tiger Cave

Tiger Cave is a Buddhist temple that’s located on a hilltop. The temple is known for its golden Buddha statue and the 1237 steps that lead to the top. The climb is challenging, but the views from the top are breathtaking.  If you prefer to explore a few different places in a day, along with a group of friends and professional guides, you can join our Krabi tour. To book your spot, get in touch with us here.

Climb Monkey Trail

Climb Monkey Trail

Monkey Trail is a hiking trail that leads to Pai Plong Beach from Ao Nang Beach. To reach the beginning of the trail, you have to walk through C2 Beach Club Restaurant. On the other side, you will find a small bridge which leads to a rickety wooden stairway. This stairway will lead you through the forest, on a beautiful walk known as the Ao Nang Monkey Trail. True to its name, you will find many monkey families jumping around, just as curious and excited to see you as you are to see them. Be careful not to feed them, or carry food in your hands. Walk through the forest with these cute monkeys and enjoy the lush forest and lovely views. We recommend taking this walk in the evening, as the scenery and climate are at their best around golden hour.

the Emerald Pool & Blue Pool

Visit the Emerald Pool & Blue Pool

The Emerald Pool and Blue Pool are must-see sights for nature lovers coming into the Krabi district. These natural pools are a 90 minute drive from Slumber Party Ao Nang, but the journey is well worth your time. You will need a scooter or car to get here, but once you do the entry is completely free. You can also visit the hot spring waterfall Khlong Thom on the way, which you can find here. The spring has an entry fee of THB 200 for foreign tourists. These natural attractions can fill up a whole day of your vacation here in Krabi.

In conclusion, Ao Nang offers a range of activities for travelers. From partying to outdoor adventures, there’s something for everyone. Make sure to add these activities to your itinerary to make your trip one of the most memorable vacations you will have!
